The mental side of performance

At a competitive level, the physical gaps between athletes are small. What separates a good day from a great one is mental: how quickly you settle, where your attention goes under pressure, and how well you reset after something goes wrong. These are skills, and together we train them as deliberately as you train your body. In hypnosis you rehearse the moments that matter in vivid detail, and NLP captures exactly what you do at your best so you can repeat it on demand. You'll walk into competition settled, focused and ready.

A programme, not a one-off

  1. Assessment. A detailed conversation about your sport, your level, your calendar and the situations where performance slips. You agree what you want to be different and how you'll know.
  2. Mental rehearsal. In hypnosis, you rehearse key moments in vivid detail, from the warm-up to the decisive point, until they feel familiar. NLP modelling captures the pattern of your best performances so it can be practised.
  3. Routines. Together you build short pre-performance and reset routines that fit your sport's rhythm, for between shots, points, rounds or plays.
  4. Review. You review what happened in competition against your own measures, and adjust the routines before the next block of events.

A typical programme is 7 hours, often five sessions, spaced around training and competition. See fees.

For individuals

For competitive and aspiring athletes in any sport, golf among them, who want a structured approach to the mental game: preparing for a season, a selection event or a championship, returning after injury, or working through a run of form that has knocked confidence. See also Tim's work with individuals in other high-pressure fields.

For teams and clubs

Workshops for squads, academies and clubs introduce practical tools the whole group can use: settling routines, focus cues, and how to reset together after a setback. They can be followed by confidential one-to-one sessions for players who want them. What a player discusses one-to-one stays between them and Tim. See for organisations.

Working alongside your coach

Your coach leads on technique, tactics and selection, and Tim's work is built to support theirs. With the athlete's agreement, Tim aligns rehearsal and routines with what the coaching team is working on, so the mental work and the coaching plan pull in the same direction.

How we measure progress

Progress is measured against the athlete's own goals, agreed at the start: for example, how settled you feel before competing, how quickly you reset after an error, or how consistently you use your routine.

Questions

What does a programme involve?

An assessment, then sessions of mental rehearsal and routine-building, with reviews after competition. A typical programme is 7 hours, usually five sessions, timed around your calendar.

Can you work with a whole team?

Yes. Team and club workshops introduce shared tools, and can be followed by confidential one-to-one sessions for individual players.

How does this fit with my coach and support team?

Tim is an Advanced and Ericksonian Hypnotherapist, a Master Practitioner of NLP and an executive coach. His programmes use hypnosis, NLP and coaching for the mental side of performance: settling, focus, rehearsal and reset. He works alongside the athlete's coach and support team, so the mental work fits the wider plan.

Do you work online and on-site?

Both. One-to-one sessions are in Farringdon, London EC1, or online by Teams or Zoom. Team workshops can be on-site at your club or venue.
