A calm city bedroom at night, soft white bedding and a reading lamp just switched off

Poor sleep affects everything: your mood, your focus, your patience and your health. For many people it starts during a stressful period and simply never resets. Hypnotherapy is a natural way to retrain the habits of mind and body that keep you awake, so sleep becomes something that happens rather than something you have to chase.

Why sleep goes wrong

Sleep needs your nervous system to stand down. Stress, worry or an irregular schedule keep it switched on. After a few bad nights the bed itself becomes linked with frustration, and lying awake starts to feel like a test you keep failing. That pattern of an alert mind, a tense body and a dreaded bedtime is learned, and hypnosis is very good at changing learned patterns.

Sleep problems we work with

How hypnotherapy helps you sleep

Calming the nervous system

Hypnosis gives your body a direct experience of deep relaxation. With practice, your system learns to reach that state on its own at bedtime.

Quietening the busy mind

We work on the thoughts that crowd in at night: unfinished work, worries about tomorrow, replaying the day. You learn ways to set them down, so your mind has permission to rest.

Changing what bed means

We rebuild the link between your bed and sleep, so getting into bed brings drowsiness rather than dread.

Dealing with the root

If stress, anxiety or a past experience is driving the insomnia, we work on that too, so sleep improves at the source.

Your sleep routine, with self-hypnosis

You'll learn a short self-hypnosis routine for bedtime and for those 3am wakings. Many clients also use a personal recording. Together they give you something reliable to do instead of lying there clock-watching.

Sleep for busy professionals

Long hours, late emails, travel across time zones and high-stakes days all take a toll on sleep. Many of my clients are senior people who've accepted poor sleep as the price of the job. It doesn't have to be. We build routines that fit a demanding life, so you can switch off at night and perform well the next day.

Why you wake at 3am

Early waking is often driven by stress hormones that rise naturally in the small hours. If your mind is already on alert, that rise is enough to wake you, and once awake the worries rush in. We work on calming the overnight alarm and give you a reliable way to settle again, so a brief waking stays brief.

Sleep and anxiety

Poor sleep and anxiety feed each other. Worry keeps you awake; tiredness makes worry harder to manage. Breaking the cycle at either end helps both. Many clients find their daytime anxiety eases as their nights improve. If worry is the bigger problem, see hypnotherapy for anxiety.

Good habits that support hypnotherapy

Shift work, travel and jet lag

Irregular hours confuse the body clock. For shift workers and frequent travellers, we build a portable routine that tells your system it's time to sleep, wherever and whenever that is. Many clients use their recording on planes and in hotel rooms.

Sleep after a difficult time

Bereavement, a break-up, illness or a stressful project can leave sleep broken long after the event. Hypnosis helps the mind process what happened and return to its normal rhythm, so nights stop being a time for replaying the past.

Busy mind at bedtime

For many people the problem isn't the body; it's the mind that starts reviewing the day the moment the light goes off. We give that busy mind something better to do: a calm, absorbing sequence that it learns to follow, so attention drifts away from problems and towards sleep.

Sleep anxiety

After weeks of bad nights, bedtime itself becomes stressful. You calculate how many hours are left, worry about tomorrow and try hard to sleep, which keeps you awake. Hypnosis takes the effort out of it. Clients learn to stop trying to sleep and simply rest, and sleep follows.

Naps, weekends and catching up

Long lie-ins and late naps can push your body clock off course and make the next night harder. We look at your pattern across the whole week and adjust it gently, so your nights become more predictable.

What a sleep session feels like

Most people find sleep sessions deeply restful. You lie back or recline, and I guide you into a relaxed, drowsy state that resembles the edge of sleep. Many clients say it's more rested than they've been in months, and that feeling is exactly what we train you to recreate at night.

Sleep and performance

Sleep is when your brain consolidates learning, clears fatigue and resets your mood. For people under pressure at work or in sport, good sleep is a competitive advantage. Clients often notice sharper focus, steadier patience and better decisions once their nights improve.

Sleep for new parents and carers

Broken nights caring for a baby or a relative can leave you unable to sleep even when you finally have the chance. Hypnosis helps you drop off quickly in the time you have, and switch off the alertness that keeps you listening for the next call.

How sessions work

  1. Free call to talk about your sleep and what's going on around it.
  2. First session: we map your sleep pattern and you experience deep relaxation in hypnosis.
  3. Next sessions: we work on the mind, the body and the bedtime link, and refine your routine.
  4. Your toolkit: self-hypnosis and a recording for nights at home.

What clients notice

The first change is often falling asleep faster. Then nights become less broken, and early wakings settle more quickly. Clients also notice they worry less about sleep, which is a big part of sleeping well. Better nights bring clearer mornings, steadier moods and more energy for the day.

Questions about hypnotherapy for sleep

What if I drift off in the session?

Sometimes people drift, and that's fine. Hypnosis still works, and I'll bring you gently back before we finish.

How quickly will my sleep improve?

Many clients notice better nights within the first few sessions, especially once they use the self-hypnosis routine at home.

Can hypnotherapy help if I wake at 3am?

Yes. You'll have a specific routine for getting back to sleep, and we work on whatever is waking you.

Can I do sleep sessions online?

Yes. Many clients like online sessions in the evening, so they can stay in a relaxed state at home afterwards.

Do I need to stop taking sleeping tablets?

No. Keep following your doctor's advice. Many clients find they rely on tablets less as natural sleep returns, and that's a conversation to have with your GP.

Will a recording help between sessions?

Yes. A personal recording made around your needs is one of the most useful tools for bedtime and early wakings.

Can children or teenagers have sleep sessions?

Ask on the free call. For younger clients, we agree it with a parent first and they stay nearby.

Is hypnotherapy for sleep better than a sleep app?

Apps play the same script to everyone. Sessions with me are built around what keeps you awake, and your recording is made for you, which is why clients find it more effective.

How long before bed should I use self-hypnosis?

Use it once you're in bed with the lights off. Many clients fall asleep during the routine, which is exactly what we want.

Can I see you alongside my GP?

Yes. Keep taking any medication as prescribed: Tim is happy to work alongside your GP or medical team.
