Hypnotherapy for sports: focus, composure and confidence
Train the mind as carefully as the body. Sports hypnotherapy helps you arrive at the start line, the tee or the crease focused, settled and ready to compete.

Every athlete knows the feeling of performing brilliantly in training and tightening up when it counts. Sports hypnotherapy works on that gap. Using hypnosis, NLP and coaching, we train your mind to stay in the present, trust your preparation and recover quickly when something goes wrong.
What sports hypnotherapy helps with
- Pre-competition nerves and overthinking
- Focus and concentration under pressure
- Confidence after injury, defeat or a loss of form
- The yips and other skills that break down under pressure
- Visualisation and mental rehearsal
- Sleep and recovery before big events
- Motivation through long training blocks
Who I work with
Runners, golfers, tennis players, cricketers, swimmers, cyclists, fighters, riders and team players, from club level to professionals. The sport changes; the principles stay the same. Pressure triggers an old reaction, and we teach your body and mind a better one.
How sessions work
- Free call about your sport, your level and what's getting in the way.
- Mapping your performance state: what happens on a great day and on a bad one.
- Mental rehearsal in hypnosis: you run your event in detail, staying calm and sharp.
- Anchors and routines for the minutes before you compete.
- Review after events so each one builds on the last.
A pre-competition routine
Together we build a short routine you run before every event: a breathing pattern to settle your body, a cue that brings back your best performance state, and one clear focus for the first minute. Because you've rehearsed it in hypnosis many times, it switches you on reliably when the nerves arrive.
The yips and lost skills
Golfers' putting yips, a bowler who can't release the ball, a tennis serve that falls apart under pressure: skills that work in practice and fail in competition. These are almost always pressure responses rather than technical faults. Hypnotherapy reduces the interference so the skill you've trained can run on its own again.
Coming back from injury or a slump
After an injury or a run of poor results, doubt creeps in: will my body hold up, have I lost it? We rebuild trust through vivid mental rehearsal of moving freely and performing well, so the comeback feels like a return rather than a gamble.
Staying in the moment
Pressure drags attention into the future (what if I miss?) or the past (that last shot was terrible). The best performances happen in the present. In sessions we train a simple way of returning your attention to the next action, so a mistake becomes a single moment rather than the start of a slide.
Sleep and recovery before big events
The night before a final or a race, many athletes lie awake replaying the course or the opponent. Poor sleep then feeds the nerves. A short self-hypnosis practice for the evening helps you switch off, sleep well and wake ready, which matters as much as any training session.
Why hypnosis works so well for sport
Athletes already rehearse movements thousands of times. Hypnosis lets you rehearse the mental side with the same detail: the noise of the crowd, the first serve, the final straight. Your mind treats that vivid practice as experience, so on the day the pressure feels familiar rather than new.
Questions about sports hypnotherapy
Will hypnosis make me lose my competitive edge?
No. It sharpens it. You keep all the drive; you lose the tension that gets in its way.
Can it help after an injury?
Yes. Rebuilding trust in your body and your confidence after injury is common work in sports hypnotherapy.
Do you work with teams and coaches?
Yes, through workshops and one-to-one sessions alongside the coaching staff.
How many sessions do athletes need?
Some come for two or three sessions before a key event; others work through a season. We'll plan it at the free call.
Can I use self-hypnosis on my own?
Yes. You'll learn a short routine for training days and competition days.
Does it work for team sports?
Yes. Footballers, rugby and hockey players use it for consistency, decision-making under pressure and bouncing back from mistakes during a match.
