NLP coaching London: change how you think, speak and perform
Neuro-Linguistic Programming in practice: precise techniques for managing your state, your language and your results, coached one to one by a Master Practitioner.

NLP coaching in London with me combines the structure of coaching with the toolkit of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I'm Tim Dunton, a London-based NLP Master Practitioner who studied directly with Richard Bandler and John Grinder, the two people who created NLP. I've used it with clients for more than 20 years, alongside hypnotherapy and executive coaching.
What is NLP coaching?
NLP is a practical study of how people produce their best and worst moments: the pictures they make in their minds, the things they say to themselves, and the way their bodies respond. Once you can see that structure, you can change it. NLP coaching applies that idea to your goals, so you learn to put yourself into a resourceful state on purpose and communicate with more precision and influence.
What NLP coaching helps with
- Staying composed under pressure and recovering quickly after setbacks
- Presenting, pitching and persuading with clarity
- Difficult conversations and negotiations
- Breaking procrastination and unhelpful habits of thought
- Setting goals your mind actually commits to
- Building rapport quickly with clients and colleagues
Core NLP techniques we use
Anchoring
We link a calm, confident state to a simple cue, such as a breath or a gesture, so you can call it up before a meeting or a speech.
Reframing
We change the meaning you give to a situation, which changes how you feel about it. A tough audience becomes a chance to win people over.
Submodalities
We adjust the qualities of the images and sounds in your mind: their size, brightness, distance and volume. A memory that used to feel overwhelming shrinks to its proper size.
Future pacing
You rehearse an upcoming event in detail, already handling it well, so your mind treats success as familiar rather than new.
Language patterns
You learn to notice the words that keep you stuck, in your own head and in conversation, and replace them with language that opens options and moves people.
How NLP coaching sessions run
- Free call. We talk through your goal and whether NLP coaching is the right fit for it.
- Outcome setting. We define a precise, motivating goal and how you'll know you've reached it.
- Technique and practice. Each session teaches and applies one or two techniques to a real situation in your life.
- Integration. Where helpful, hypnosis deepens the change so it holds under pressure.
- Your toolkit. The techniques stay yours, ready whenever you need them.
NLP coaching for leaders
Leaders across London use NLP to stay composed when meetings turn tense, to frame decisions so teams commit to them, and to read a room accurately. We work on the specific situations in your diary: the board meeting, the restructure announcement, the negotiation, and practise the state and language that serve you best in each.
NLP coaching for presenting and influence
NLP gives presenters precise control over their state before they speak and practical patterns for engaging an audience: stories that carry an idea, questions that open minds, and pacing that holds attention. Combined with public speaking coaching, it makes delivery feel natural rather than performed, whether the stage is a London conference or a client boardroom.
What an NLP coaching session looks like
We start with what's coming up for you and pick one situation to work on. I'll ask precise questions about how you experience it: what you see, hear and say to yourself. Then we change those elements, test the new response, and rehearse it until it feels like yours. Most sessions end with a short practice task for the week ahead.
What clients notice
Clients in London and beyond report feeling calmer in situations that used to rattle them, saying what they mean more clearly, and recovering faster from setbacks. Many say the biggest change is internal: they stop arguing with themselves and simply get on with things.
NLP coaching with hypnotherapy
NLP and hypnosis grew up side by side, and they work well together. NLP gives you precise, conscious tools; hypnosis helps the new responses settle in at a deeper, automatic level. Many clients find that combination is what makes the change last beyond the first enthusiasm.
NLP coaching for anxiety and pressure
Although my NLP coaching is aimed at performance, the same techniques help with the everyday pressure that wears people down: the Sunday-evening dread, the inbox that sets your heart racing, the replaying of a difficult conversation at night. We change how those situations are coded in your mind, so they lose their emotional charge and you can respond rather than react.
Where NLP coaching fits with other support
NLP coaching sits comfortably alongside mentoring, leadership programmes and other coaching you're already having. Clients often use it to unlock the specific moments where everything else they've learned seems to disappear under pressure.
Choosing an NLP coach in London
London has plenty of NLP coaches. Look for proper Master Practitioner training, years of real client work and an approach that makes sense to you. Ask how they'll measure progress, and whether they combine NLP with anything else. A free first conversation tells you a lot: you should leave it feeling understood and clear about what would happen next.
Is NLP coaching legit?
NLP has its fans and its critics. In my practice it's a set of practical techniques used within professional coaching, not a magic formula. Clients judge it the way they'd judge any coaching: by whether they think, feel and perform differently afterwards.
Questions about NLP coaching
Do I need to learn NLP theory?
No. You learn the techniques you need by using them on your own goals. The theory comes along naturally, and only as much as is useful.
How is this different from an NLP practitioner course?
A course trains you to use NLP with other people. Coaching applies NLP to you and your goals, one to one, at your pace.
How long does NLP coaching take?
Most clients choose a 7-hour programme. Some come for two or three sessions on a single goal. See fees.
Can NLP coaching be done online?
Yes. Every technique works by video, and many clients mix sessions in our Farringdon, London room with online ones.
Do you work with teams?
Yes. NLP for communication and composure works well in small-group workshops. See executive coaching.
What qualifications should an NLP coach have?
Look for Master Practitioner level training and real coaching experience. My NLP training came directly from Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who created it, and I hold life and executive coaching qualifications too.
Is NLP the same as hypnosis?
No, though they developed together. NLP works with conscious techniques; hypnosis works with a deeply relaxed, focused state. I use both where they help.
What happens in the first NLP coaching session?
We agree a precise outcome, look at how the current pattern works for you, and try one technique on a real situation. Most clients leave the first session with something they can use straight away, and a clear sense of how the rest of the programme will run.
